How to Download Music off YouTube

Friday, March 28th, 2008

If you’ve been on YouTube for any length of time, you’ve probably already discovered they have just about any music video imaginable.  Just search for your favorite artist and you’ll find all their music videos.  You’ll even find rare video clips of special recording sessions and concerts that you can’t even buy off Itunes or music CDs.

The only problem is they are YouTube videos and you have to be at your computer to watch them.  Also there isn’t an easy way to make a play-list like you can with your Ipod or CD player.  To really make the best use of YouTube’s hidden gem (Unlimited FREE music) you need to download the videos off YouTube’s website.  Then you need to convert the videos into a MP3 file so you listen to the music.  Fortunately, YouTube Driver will do just that for you.

Many Free YouTube Download websites exist, but they usually suffer from the same problem- they only download you a FLV file.  What can you do with that?  Not too much actually.  You can’t use them on your Ipod, and you can’t burn them to a CD.  You can’t use them in your car or at the beach.  You can only play them on a FLV player (special software).

There are even some free download sites that try to convert the files to MP3, but they are extremely slow.  Do you really want to cut and paste URLs into a website, then wait 5 minutes for it to finish only to do it again for the next song?  That seems kind of silly.  Not to mention a big waste of time.

So why is YouTube Driver Better?

YouTube Driver will download your music videos with one click in your Web-Browser.  Then you save the file as an MP3 file.  The complicated video conversion is done automatically.  But do you want to know the best part?  You can download more than one music video at the same time.  This means you can search out your favorite artist’s new album and download it in about the same time it would take you buy each song on I-Tunes.

So what’s the drawback?

Well, if you haven’t noticed YouTube’s audio format isn’t exactly CD quality.  I suspect this is because they simply can’t store that much data on their servers.  But I recently downloaded an entire album of a famous Rock Artist in about 10 minutes.  I even downloaded a few bonus tracks that you can’t find anywhere else.

I took the 11 songs I downloaded from YouTube and burned them to a CD.  I play it in my back yard when I’m doing yard-work and it sounds pretty good.

How to Download Music Videos with YouTube Driver.
1. Download the YouTube Driver software from here.
2. Search for Music Videos.
3. Press the YouTube Driver Icon (explained in the software) and it will start to download your video.
4. Set the file Type to MP3
5. Store your YouTube music files in a folder on your computer (YouTube Driver does this for you).
6. Burn a music CD of your new FREE music.

Won’t the record Companies get mad about this?

I don’t think so.  The music isn’t really high-quality enough for them to care.  You won’t get CD quality music.  I look at it like recording your favorite songs off the Radio when they play them.  But at least with YouTube Driver it’s a heck of a lot easier (and faster too).
